Our School
Small but powerful, Otto-Eldred Elementary School is a place where your child will gain a strong academic foundation and build good character along the way. With approximately 360 students from kindergarten through 6th grade and only 20 students in our average classroom, we take pride in the fact that students can receive the one-on-one attention each needs from his or her teacher.
If you ever have questions for us or would like to tour our campus, don’t hesitate to contact us or pay us a visit.
State-of-the-Art Technology
Here at Otto-Eldred, technology is integrated into every classroom. Kindergarteners regularly use iPads to develop literacy skills. Our district was a finalist for a KTO Innovation Award. We are continuously updating our curriculum to meet the quickly advancing needs of today’s students.
A Message from Our Administration
January 23, 2026
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Each year, we are reminded that Old Man Winter and varied weather forecasts will be a focus in McKean County! Over the last week and into the next few weeks, we will continue to watch snow forecasts and temperature warnings. This week, especially, is full of “real feel” and “snow ratios” that get us longing for spring.
We are requesting your help in ensuring our students are dressed appropriately for the conditions. There are always a few kids who enter school in a t-shirt with no jacket or leave school after practice with just shorts and no long pants. While there are definite health benefits to being outside in the winter, we want to be sure kids are prepared for our typical winter weather. In our area, we are accustomed to braving the elements. Being prepared for a late-arriving bus, accumulating snow, or frequent wind gusts is the expectation. Our maintenance staff is very diligent in keeping our sidewalks and parking lots clear, as well as keeping our room temperatures appropriate. Despite our best efforts, there will be equipment issues resulting in some cooler rooms and unexpected snow that can create some slippery sidewalks.
Taking a few extra moments to plan for the weather will help keep everyone safe and comfortable during arrival and dismissal times. Please double-check that your student is equipped with any combination of coats, sweatshirts, winter hats, winter gloves, and appropriate footwear.
When forecasts look definite, our goal is to let the community know in advance of any delays or cancellations. Our Facebook page and our School Messenger notification system are the most direct ways we will notify our school community of any changes.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Sincerely,
Matthew D. Splain
Superintendent
Otto-Eldred School District
